Gion / Higashiyama

This is worth seeing area which has many temples and shrines. Sightseeing by bicycle is very comfortable in this area because there is no directly access from Kyoto Station and it is inconvenient to move by train.

There are a lot of attractive tourist attractions such as Kiyomizudera Temple which boasts tremendous popularity as a tourist attraction, Hanamikoji-dori Street you can enjoy Kyoto-like view with pavement with stone, and Ryozen-rekishi Museum which is adjacent to the grave of Sakamoto Ryoma. This area is also very popular with foreigner as a hub of sightseeing because of many long-established Japanese style hotels.

However, you cannot go to Ninenzaka or Sannenzaka around Kiyomizudera Temple by bicycle because there is very crowded and many steps. You should go on foot with parking the bicycle at Kiyomizuzaka Parking.

There are cases it is difficult to ride on a bicycle in full of tourists particularly in the cherry blossom season and at the time the leaves turn in autumn. In that case, it is a good idea to park the bicycle at a parking space and enjoy walking around.
